In the 1860s, the Willet-Holthuysens refurnished the main rooms on the first floor of the house. They chose a neo Louis XVI style for the ladies’ salon and the ballroom, in line with the international fashion of the time. Simple lines, clear divisions and symmetrical ornaments are all characteristic of this style – details reflected in the curtains and wall coverings, for example. No expense or effort was spared in order to give the salon a true sense of grandeur.
